Runescape was no longer Runescape to them.

This is a bit an individual opinion, but OSRS gold is a personal one. I don't think everyone agrees that the game became "un-old school" after the introduction of Summoning. This is your personal opinion. I know that many others have the same opinion, however that doesn't mean it's an accurate one.

I played Runescape through all of these modifications and as massive the changes were I was okay with the majority of them. The summoning feature was a new and interesting capability, and although it could've been better taught it (mostly getting charms) it was fun to make use of different familiars. Ancient Curses were massive and Soul Split was a game-changer and I loved it; I wouldn't want it to be part of OSRS though bc it heavily changes the way the game works (maybe it could be nerfed or adjusted so prayer actually drains regardless of what it is it is, and cannot be turned off). I enjoyed Dungeoneering and wouldn't mind it being in OSRS (it's an advanced CG that is more enjoyable; it will definitely require adjustment to work with OSRS and rewards were an option).

Bonus XP weekends aren't something I liked at all. The game felt cheap and holding onto supplies until that weekend just felt like bad game design. Switching from HP to Consitution didn't affect anything, but it felt like something that was a major change in the way the game was. The old Effigies weren't a good idea for game design, they changed how skills worked completely and introduced an entirely new meta for slow-performing skills. Korasi Sword wasn't the worst thing, but it fundamentally changed the way PvP performed as it was an untradable weapon which was more powerful than AGS/Claws and devalued PvP IMO.

Loyalty Programme was a decent idea, but it was accompanied with bonus XP rewards and auras that gave too many benefits to players that didn't already have them. They also resulted in a myriad of cosmetics that were ugly and didn't fit the game. The Squeal of Fortune was the first step towards the end. This was when Jagex proved that they only cared about was money , and not players. Lastly Evolution of Combat, this is when I left. It was the end of the road and was the most significant of the lot. I could've accepted everything else however EoC changed the game and made Runescape a different game. (MTX was the second biggest factor but it didn't affect me, it just devalued my game and my achievements since it was easy to buy them).

Every person has their own view as about when Runescape was no longer Runescape to them. The majority of us here believe with the idea that EoC was the last straw. The majority of us dislike MTX. However, I believe just a few people dislike things such as Summoning Dungeoneering, Effigies, (bullshit playing metas with op skills), Loyalty program (dumb unfitting cosmetics) and Bonus XP (just an outright poor game design, as the majority of players have never trained in summoning, herb or prayer or their toughest technique until that weekend).

I'm thinking that a good portion people would agree that these "bad updates" don't have to be bad, and were enjoyed by a large number of players. There are some of them aren't compatible with OSRS However, this doesn't mean that they can't be modified to work with Cheap RuneScape gold and later added (that being said, not everything from the rs3 update should be added to OSRS too).
