GENEVA, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- How do children's symptoms宣明會助養兒童 differ from those of adults when they are infected with the new coronavirus? What are the effects of the mutated new coronavirus on children? How can people take measures to protect children? Experts from the World Health Organization recently answered these questions in a podcast.

Maria van Kerckhove, WHO technical lead for the new coronavirus, said that people of different ages behave differently when they are infected with the new coronavirus. Most people infected with the new coronavirus will have fever and respiratory symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and sneezing, while some people will also experience loss of smell and taste and gastrointestinal symptoms. However, children and adolescents tend to have milder symptoms compared to adults. For example, younger children usually do not show as many symptoms as adults, some may have gastrointestinal symptoms such as mild diarrhea or vomiting, and most children do not even show any symptoms.

For the many places around the world to report the discovery of mutations 宣明會助養兒童of new coronaviruses, Van Kerkhoff said that virus mutations are expected, many of which have no impact on the ability of the virus to spread and the severity of the resulting disease, but some "variants of concern" deserve further study. She also concluded that the variants of the new coronavirus have not been shown to cause more severe disease in all age groups to date. The study showed that the mutant viruses found in the U.K. showed a greater ability to spread in all age groups, but children were not more likely than adults to be infected with the mutant viruses.

The best way to protect children in the face of a new crown epidemic is to prevent 宣明會助養兒童infection, Van Kerkhove said. The same protective measures one often hears about apply to children. Specifically, make sure children maintain hand hygiene by learning to wash their hands properly with soap and water, by singing and washing their hands to ensure enough lather to actually wash their hands, or by using alcohol-based hand gel; make sure children pay attention to hygienic manners, such as coughing and sneezing inside bent elbows, which are good habits to develop as children grow up; and make sure children follow local health department guidelines to wear age-appropriate masks; to use clean hands to properly wear masks and cover their mouths and noses, and to wash their hands after removing the masks; and to keep social distance from others is a good way to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

Parents should also answer their children's questions whenever possible. Many confusing messages can make children panic, so make time to talk to them and alleviate fears by answering their questions correctly, Van Kerkhoff concluded.
