Curcumin, a component of turmeric (Curmuma longa L.), is arguably one of the most researched substances in recent years. But if you see arguments like "turmeric can beat western medicine" on the internet, just laugh it off, because there is still a long way to go before the current research "beats western medicine".

Anti-inflammatory

Curcumin has been found to inhibit the activity of specific enzymes to reduce the inflammatory response produced by inflammatory cells.

Anti-oxidant

In cellular experiments, curcumin was found to have the ability to 薑黃素膠囊protect cells against oxidative stress by promoting the expression of specific enzymes in hemoglobin.

Prevention of cardiovascular disease

Since inflammation is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, the anti-inflammatory ability of curcumin plays an important role in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Lowering blood cholesterol

Triglycerides, low-density cholesterol and very low-density cholesterol in the curcumin group were all significantly lower after the intervention than before the intervention. Triglycerides, low-density cholesterol and very low-density cholesterol in the curcumin group were all significantly lower after the intervention than before.

Prevention of diabetes

Curcumin has been found to reduce glucose production in the liver, inhibit the inflammatory response caused by hyperglycemia, increase specific gene expression and thus increase cellular glucose uptake, thus reducing insulin antagonism and lowering blood glucose. At very high concentrations of curcumin intake, there may be an effect on blood glucose control. However, it is not known whether the effect of low concentrations remains, and the safety of long-term intake of high concentrations of curcumin is unknown because of the lack of long-term follow-up in this study, which was conducted over nine months.

Diabetic nephropathy

The use of high concentrations of curcumin for a short period of time may be helpful in the control of diabetic nephropathy.

Diabetic microangiopathy

A significant reduction in resting blood flow to the skin surface was found after curcumin intervention, and blood flow is generally increased in patients with diabetic microangiopathy, suggesting that curcumin may have an ameliorative effect on microangiopathy; significant improvement in edema was also observed; venoarteriolar response The authors speculate that the increase in PO2 may be due to better diffusion of oxygen to the skin and improved edema. The current study suggests that turmeric may be helpful in diabetic vasculopathy, but the mechanism is not clear.

Obesity

Curcumin inhibits mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK, ERK, JNK, and p38), which are associated with differentiation of 3T3-L1 cell lines into adipocytes, and activation of the Wnt/β-catenin transduction pathway in differentiated adipocytes - all of which are inextricably linked to obesity. These are inextricably linked to obesity. In white adipose tissue, curcumin reduces macrophage infiltration, leptin, and in inflammation-associated obesity, curcumin inhibits NF-kB activity by adding the expression of adeponectin, thus presumably having an inhibitory effect on obesity, but human trials are still needed to confirm this.

Turmeric is related to the inhibition or activation of enzymes known to be associated with obesity, and may theoretically have an inhibitory effect on obesity. But these studies are still a long way from human trials, in addition to obesity is a multifactorial effect, want to rely on turmeric to reduce weight at this stage or do not think.
