Ten years ago, we used a rotating chain to connect drill pipes. It took talent and time to master the art of spinning the chain (responsible for many deaths). Now this is done using automated hydraulic equipment.
In the industry, only a small part of the equipment is standardized, even stamped industrial equipment tends to be modified to one degree or another in accordance with specific needs over time.
