WASHINGTON – May Construction of Chevy Chase, Md. has hired Commercial Window Shield for a switchable smart film installation project in the nation’s capital.
The project involves installing switchable smart film in office space at 580 Water St. SW as part of a buildout for May client OTJ, a prominent, nationwide architectural firm. The switchable smart film installation is being integrated into OTJ’s integrated Lutron lighting system.
Switchable smart film is installed on the interior side of the office or conference room glass. An electrical component that is integrated into the film is wired to a light switch by the installers.
When the switch is flipped on, the film remains clear allowing passersby to see inside and those inside to see outside. So, there is complete transparency, which is the norm.
However, when the switch is turned off the film becomes opaque. This action blocks views of the interior and, essentially, turns the glass into a blacked-out privacy wall. People inside or outside the room cannot see one another.
A second benefit of switchable smart films is that the film is projectable, meaning they can be used as a display screen for viewing power point presentations, videos and other images. The combination of on-demand privacy and turning the switchable smart film into a projectable screen has made switchable smart film a popular choice in recent years for office renovation projects.
Commercial Window shield, which has considerable experience installing switchable smart film, will be coordinating its installation with other May subcontractors. With OTJ expecting to move into its new space this month, Commercial Window Shield will be working on a tight deadline to complete its switchable smart film installation work.
