Athletes who like to go hard to the basket and dunk on whoever gets in their way will be happy to hear this. In NBA 2K23, dunking is likely the most effective technique to score, particularly when it is carried out by a build that emphasizes slashing. Even while this reworked part of the offensive game has received more attention this year, one of my concerns is how ineffectual the interior defense may be at times — we'll talk more about that in a moment. In previous installments of the 2K series, players could rely on their driving dunk rating in conjunction with the necessary badges for finishing to guide them boldly into the paint. However, the control schemes in NBA 2K23 have been altered to provide players with a new way to take advantage of the rim. The 2K team calls the modifications made to the pro stick and how it performs "double throws" and "switchbacks." These maneuvers allow players to have a larger arsenal of moves to choose from in the game.

To execute a double throw, first flick the pro stick in the desired direction, then wait for it to return to the center, and last swiftly move the pro stick back in the same direction as the initial flick. To perform a switchback, first move the pro stick in one way, wait for it to reach its center position, and then swiftly move it in the opposite direction. With this, players are now able to (attempt to) pull off posterizing dunks whenever and anywhere they want, particularly while they are attacking the hoop. In NBA 2K22, you may assault the rim with what you believe to be a straightforward effort at dunking, only to be surprised when the dunk meter appears on the screen and takes you by surprise.

The dunk meter has been brought back for NBA 2K23; however, in order for it to appear, you will need to successfully execute a double throw or switchback command. Previously, it was possible for it to appear with any action. Players are able to hit nasty euros and cradle layups like Ginobili thanks to the double throw and switchback movements that can be performed with the pro stick. These gestures extend to the saucier aspect of attacking the rim. You will be able to pull off layups that might have Filayyyy producing clips off your highlights if you figure out and master these new combos and have a player that is capable of curving around the rim.

Throughout the course of the most recent several revisions of the game, the NBA 2K development team has been putting a lot of effort into making the defensive side of the ball stronger. When the most recent handful of games came out, it seemed like the game was generally well balanced, but then a patch came out and nerfed specific sections, which ultimately resulted in defense becoming an afterthought. It is easy to remember that in NBA 2K22, if you dribbled the ball too much, you were at risk of being stolen from very frequently. However, following a balance change, stealing the ball became considerably less common. This issue has been addressed in NBA 2K23; as a result, the defense in this year's game is the most well-balanced and rewarding it has ever been in the series.

When it comes to stealing, the answer is no, you can't just keep pressing the steal button over and over again and expect to get a rip every time. This season has shown that playing on-ball defense and attempting to steal the ball requires a certain level of intelligence in order to be successful. The feeling of satisfaction you get from playing on-ball defense is so intense that it's almost unnerving. You still run the risk of being blown by or crossed up, but the most of the responsibility for this rests with your intelligence and your ability to stay in front of the ball handler. This does not mean that the player who has possession of the ball does not, in most cases, have the advantage; nevertheless, the same is true in the actual NBA as well.
