Squint eyes or crossed eyes are common eye conditions among children. It happens when the eyes are not lined up properly the way they should and are pointed in different directions. It might seem like one eye looks straight while the other eye turns in, out, up, or down.

There are a total of 6 eye muscles involved in your eye movement. One eye muscle moves the eye to the right and another one to the left. The rest of the 4 eye muscles help in eye movement like up, down, and at any angle.

Squint or strabismus mostly occurs in babies or toddlers due to their heredity. Since both eyes should be at the same spot and if they are not it affects your vision. Some babies are born with squint while others acquire it after some time. It is vital not to ignore squints as they develop after 3 months of age. Problems that occur if a squint is not treated-

  1. Blurred vision or double vision
  2. The brain starts to ignore signals coming from the affected eye.

Causes of Squint

How to fix squint eye naturally

Here are natural ways through which you can win back your vision but be sure you go through proper eye examination before you start a vision treatment plan.

  1. Pencil Pushups

It is a simple ocular workout that gets both eyes aimed at the same fixed point. You can start by holding a pencil pointing away from you. And start focusing your gaze on the eraser; slowly move the pencil towards the bridge of your nose. Try to focus as long as you can but stop immediately when you feel your vision is getting blurry.

2. Brock String

For this exercise, you will need a 5 feet long with three different colored beads. Now secure one end of the string to a static point and hold the other end of the story tightly below your nose.

Look straight to the beads with both eyes open. You will be experiencing a consistent pattern as you shift your focus from bead to bead. The intersection formed will start looking like an X, be sure you get an X image if not then that means you aren’t focusing properly.

3. Barrel Cards

For this, you have to draw three barrels of progressive size in red on one side of a card. Repeat in green on the other side. Now hold the card against the nose so that the biggest barrel is the farthest. Stare at the far barrel until you start looking at one image with both colors and the other two images become doubled. You will have to maintain this gaze of at least 5 seconds.

It is quite common to notice a little squint in children when they are tired. Babies tend to cross their eyes especially when they are daydreaming. But 1 in 500 children have squint and this makes it important to seek advice otherwise it will affect your child’s vision.
